It consists of 20.23 Hectares of forest, Pine and Indigenous as well as some grasslands. There is an abundance of bird life and butterflies. Karkloof is not that well know and yet it is steeped in history and one of the most beautiful areas in the midlands. It is mainly farming and forestry but on the fringes of the valley is an indegenous forest that is spectacular, also hidden is the Grey Mare's Tail falls which can been seen from the road. Excursions to see the falls as well as hikes through the indegenous forest can be arranged. Walks in our local forests, bird-watching and breath-taking views allow you to unwind. A little further on is the start of the Midlands Meander. Activities in the area include the Karkloof Canopy Tours a must for those adventure minded folks. Guided mountain biking tours are available from the lodge to some beautiful areas of the Karkloof Valley, spectacular scenery, waterfalls and forests. We cater for the novice to experienced riders. Short or long tours depending on your requirements, equipment and bikes are available for hire by prior arrangement or bring your own. Karkloof Adventures offer horse rides with a difference a 1 hour through the forest, or 2 hour game viewing and a 3 hour ride with either a breakfast or lunchtime picnic at the Karkloof Falls. The Karkloof Nature Reserve is a short drive from the Lodge. For those who love the water then a few kilometers up the road is Craigie Burn Nature Reserve and Dam. For a R10 entrance fee a beautiful spot for fishing and boating for the day. The lodge can accommodate up to 14 people, with 3 Log Cabins all with main bedroom en-suite, lounge and kitchenette. Each cabin has a different configuration Cabin 1 sleeps 4 - one double bed - main bedroom and 2 singles beds in the lounge area, cabin 2 sleeps 4 this has a double bed in the bedroom - 2 singles beds in the lounge area, cabin 3 sleeps 4 - double bed in the main bedroom - 2 singles in the lounge area Also available near the office is a room en suite, 1 double bed in main room and bathroom. Braai - barbeque facitities in front of each unit. The cabins are fully equipped with all linen,towels, crockery and cutlery supplied. So if you are looking for some peace and quiet a friendly welcome awaits you. Directions on how to get to Destiny Forest Lodge: From Durban take the Howick /Midmar turnoff, from JhB take the Howick /Tweedie go into Howick CBD till you get to Supa Quick (in the main street) turn at Supa Quick onto the Karkloof / Rietvlei Road travel 20 kilometers and the tar ends, travel a further 10 kilometers on a all weather DIRT road, on the right will be two signs Destiny Forest Lodge (on a red Coke Cola sign board) and Rainbow Retreat , turn right, plus minus 150 meters turn left at second Destiny Forest sign follow the road keeping to the left till you get to main gate.Attractions- Karkloof Canopy Tours
